Top UK Master leads Qigong Day in Rickmansworth

SEPTEMBER 2020 - the White Crane Bamboo Tai Chi club hosted a full day Qigong (pronounced “chee gung”) course taught by one of the leading Tai Chi / Qigong Masters in Europe, Madame Faye Li Yip.

Qigong, translated as ‘Energy Healing’, is an ancient Chinese form of exercise designed to promote health and wellbeing. In these stressful times when people are increasingly looking to improve their general physical and mental wellbeing, this event came at a very opportune time.

In planning for over a year, the course was at one point threatened with cancellation due the Covid-19 pandemic. However, as restrictions were eased, David Hackett (the club’s Senior Instructor) was able to work closely with the venue to conduct the appropriate risk assessment and implement the necessary mitigations that allowed it to proceed.

Exercise formats such as Qigong and Tai Chi have been available in the UK for some-time, but it can often be difficult to access good teaching. This course has now brought that teaching to Rickmansworth and surrounding areas.

Individual Qigong exercises are typically grouped into sets designed to meet specific health and wellbeing needs. At the course, Faye demonstrated and taught the very popular set ‘Yi Jin Jing’ which, when translated into English, means ‘Muscle Tendon Change’.

David Hackett who organised the event commented that, “persuading Faye to teach this course was a real ‘win’ for local enthusiasts. Getting someone this senior and with advanced teaching skills is a real boost to the practice of Qigong in the area. Planning is already in place for another event next year.”
